“Astonishing Army Ants”

Dr. Edward O. Wilson, University Research Professor, Emeritus, at Harvard University,  one of the most highly respected scientists in the world today who has written many books including two Pulitzer Prize winners wrote,

“Carl Rettenmeyer is the world authority on the army ants by virtue of having         virtually lived with them in field research. His video record guides the viewer expertly into this savage and alien world.”

Dr. Bert Hölldobler, Professor at both University of Würzberg and Arizona State U.

wrote the Pulitzer Prize winner “Ants” with E. O. Wilson, wrote,

“This is an outstanding scientific visual document of this fascinating group of ant species.”

Dr. Howell Daly , Professor Emeritus, U. of California wrote,

“The video “Astonishing Army Ants’ is very impressive.  I just finished my fourth viewing.”

Scott and Nancy Mackinnon,   amature naturalists wrote.

“This is the most action-packed and educational production we have seen on the subject.”

This 55-minute video was filmed in the rain forests of Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador.  It had to be done in the habitats where these incredible ants live.  These army ants have been fascinating visitors to the jungles of Central and South America for 500 years.  And, the people who live with the ants welcome them because the ants clean their homes and farms of thousands of pests.  One large colony can eat 500,000 insects per week.  The complicated lives of these ants is explained clearly so they can be understood and admired by both children and adults.
